The IT Department was experiencing program cost overruns and wanted to improve their IT business case development and review process for new and or renewal programs. CAPITALWORKS proposed that VW take a page out of the Silicon Valley Venture Capital Playbook. The program that was designed treated every major IT project as a NEWCO start-up and the IT Management team as an investor board. The result was a 3 tiered business case template and process for the IT Program Managers based on the cost/investment level of the proposed IT Program as well as a 3-tiered program (NEWCO) investment criteria and evaluation process. The result added greater due diligence to both the development of the business cases and the evaluation process as well as more accurate capital requirement forecasts.
